Came here with my partner for lunch & ordered the following:Signature chicken hor fun which I opted for yellow mee & vermicelli instead - the noodles I believe were unfortunately simmered in the broth for too long so much so that the broth tasted only of yellow noodles. In addition, I was expecting the broth to be the spicy kind (or did they forget to add something? 😂)Wantan mee soup - the noodles were cooked right & had the right consistency of chewiness & spring but broth could do better. The dumplings were ok…Crispy prawn roll - delicious but a bit on the tiny side…the accompanying chili sauce was good too & this one I added it to my chicken noodles to spice the soup up 😂Nam Heong Ipoh white coffee - a bit too strong & sweet to my liking & IMO I thought it was also a bit sourEgg tarts - the saving grace of this meal 👍; flaky pastry + egg custard that’s not overly sweet 🤤 😋My family & I did a takeaway for the egg tarts once & thought they were yummy; that’s why we came back to try their dishes.
Went here for lunch, but didn't get to eat anything as lost of appetite, the restaurant staff is disgusting 🤮🤮🤮. No class, not polite and very rude. Won't recommend to come here.My friend wheelchair bound, outside table they don't want give us sit. Keep wanting my friend to walk into the restaurant through the crowd. What a disgrace of this staff.
Don't come here eat. Came all the way from Singapore to eat here, the rave reviews don't match the place. This place is very low class and very dirty. The seating arrangements was very bad. They seated 5 of us on a small table and there was barely space to eat our meals. Not just that but the chicken was raw and the staff was so rude they refuse to cook the food again, giving ridiculous, claiming that the kitchen was busy.Overall experience was a 1 star and will not up this place to anyone visiting Johor Bahru.
1.5 stars at most. Most of the food are not available. Most importantly food is generally bad. It is rare to see my kids can't finish their fried chicken rice. This tells you how bad the food are.
Generally, the food we ordered tasted nice. The prawn noodle soup was flavourful. It is different from the Singapore version as it comes with boiled egg and char siew. The beancurd dessert with ginger soup is smooth. The French toast had peanut sauce inside and came with cherry sauce. We did not eat with the cherry and still think the taste is overwhelming for us.Overall, most of the food, including egg tart and coconut tart (forgot to take picture), were nice.We would visit the restaurant again.
Visited at 3pm, restaurant is quite crowded with people. Sambal prawn and chicken cutlet nasi lemak is not bad. Egg abit overcooked though. Prawns are fresh, chicken cutlet is tender. Abit on the pricey side but food is not bad.Ordered the egg tart. Came piping hot freshly baked. Not over the top but not bad
Came over for a short tea break. The teh is good, not too sweet. The tau fu fa didn’t carry any ginger taste as we ordered but is ok. The golden lava bun is probably the highlight for us. On bun is soft and the filling inside is sweeter and not salty. Overall good taste. Nice environment. Some of the published food is not found on the online menu so you have to tell them.
I try it out because always see long queue and trusted of Ipoh food. I was disappointed.Tim Sum- not fresh. The prawn dumpling skin was think and taste weird. I asked the service person but mostly not able to communicate properly.Beancurd- okay. but if you like very smooth bean curd, try other shop in the mall.Premium prawn noodles- the only satisfying food.
Must try - egg tart, soft boiled egg, prawn noodles, president toast.Average - chicken riceSave your calories - polo bun, chicken hor fun.Overall an above average restaurant with lots of choices and reasonably priced. Come here if u are looking for local food but don't want to queue for Oriental Kopi.
If you want to try local Malaysian food in a clean, decent environment, this is the place to go.We were initially very apprehensive when we checked the reviews (which was very low). So We bought an egg-tart for takeaway to try first. It were very Good !Excellent in my oppinion considering they were "Mass Produced" inside a Mall. The crust was flaky, and custard soft but not watery. We had to order through an online system using our mobile. No need to argue or shout for attention from the waiter. Many of the dishes were sold out, which was indicated on the Online system. So it was easy to pick and choose what we wanted. I guess if you were looking for a "traditional" experience, it was a fail, but if u wanna be able to eat and order and not get your orders confused, it was full mark. The quality of the food was GOOD, not the best in Malaysia, but standards were there.Prices were high compared to what you would pay outside a mall, but what do u expect?I would recommend this restaurant if you wanted to try a variety of local Malaysian Dishes in a clean decent setting.
I just order lohanguo drink, cha Sao rice and my husband order watanho..but we both have food that is not hot..only warm..The food is okay. It's hot and cooked..it's cool to eat..And the lohanguo I ordered is sour. ..I asked my husband to drink sour Pon..then we asked the manager to come..the manager came to try to drink ckp there was no masala..but the sourness was stale lohanguo..then he asked me to change to another drink..I finally changed to soy ..doesn't taste anything..very disappointed with the food here..
We usually come here for tea break. Love their coffee, egg tarts, pastries and president toast. So far this is the only outlet we patronized. Since the first visit, we have been served by the wonderful Ying. She is very friendly, attentive and helpful and always help us with our orders. Also the main reason why we keep coming back to this outlet to enjoy our meals and her friendly service.
Shocked beyond belief at what happened to Nam Heong. I suggest the franchise owner close down this outlet immediately as it is tarnishing the good name of the original Nam Heong in Ipoh. The food was absolutely terrible. Ordered at 6.00pm, food arrived at 6.01pm. Microwaved or what, I dont know. All I know is that it tastes terrible!
I'm shocked when I see the reviews here with mostly low ratings. I'm not sure why it is but me and my girlfriend have been here several times including other branches and we find their foods and drinks aren't bad also their services are okay especially to one young chinese guy with spectacle (I'm guessing he's a supervisor) which helped us with all of our enquiries and I also appreciate his friendliness to us.
Great experience with great food and service! The kitchen members even came out to clarify our requested modification of the food. The ordering was very straight forward and simple.
The food is not bad, except for the white bread that was slightly mouldy at the edges. Looks like quality control needs to be improved. Noodles are fine, as is prawn dumpling. Drinks are fine as well. Service is inconsistent; when I asked for extra bowls since we ordered a lot of dishes to share, the staff I communicated my request to walked and chatted with another staff. It appears that he may not have understood my request. I observed that there was no way he was even asking his colleague to at least come to clarify my request with me. I had to signal to another server to get me the bowls, which he happily obliged. Apart from this, the ambiance and decor are nice. I understand that hiring staff is an issue for many eateries, what more, hiring GOOD staff.
There is no service here- why is there a service charge of 10%? The order is done through the phone and for payment we have to walk to the counter to pay up.The chicken horfun is flavorful. Big bowl of soup and medium amount of noodles but a few shredded chicken within. The roast meats are alright. There are quite a few items not available on the menu which is a letdown. Was looking forward to add some dim sum to the meal.
This outlet is hanging on a string. It used to be very popular, then got lazy, hired foreign staff who don't know much about service or food, which is the downfall.Came here again in June 2023 to try the tea time promotion, as it was really affordable and interesting. But again, the foreign staff messed it all up. The management needs to stop thinking about just making money and focusing on the food quality & service.
Packed during lunch and breakfast time. I fell in love with their pastries (chicken pao and coconut tart), Prawn noodles and Yi Poh Hor Fun... The taste was exactly like old time food... But the roasted chicken rice and char siew rice were not delicious. The char siew were not charred properly and... Too thick. The roasted chickens were a bit chewy. But the service was good.
